Norval Wannemacher

Norval Albert Wannemacher ,95, died at 2:10 a.m. Feb. 14, 2010, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Ottoville to Sylvester J. and Regina M Wurst Wannemacher, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 28, 1946, in Columbus Grove, he married Cecelia Agnes Fuerst, who preceded him in death. Mr. Wannemacher was self-employed as a farmer and enjoyed farming. He was a longtime retired postal clerk. He had been employed at the Lima Ordnance Depot and Lima Parts. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1942 to December 1945. He attained the rank of staff sergeant. He served most of World War II at Herington Army Air Field in Herington, Kan., where he worked on heavy bombardment aircraft specializing in oxygen systems. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was a member of American Legion Post 96, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471, Delphos, and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199. Survivors include a son, Michael L. Wannemacher, of Elida; a daughter, Terri (Dale) Katzenburger, of Ashburn, Va.; a grandson, Erik Davenport, of Springfield, Va.; a granddaughter, Tiffany Gilliland, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a great-grandson, Stephen Gilliland, of Ashburn, Va.; a great granddaughter, Savannah Gilliland., of Ashburn, Va.; and three sisters, Priscilla Wannemacher, of Delphos, Alice Maag, of Fort Jennings, and Rita Eickholt, of Columbus. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Ethel Wannemacher; three brothers, Earl, Richard and Bobby Wannemacher; a sister, Jean Leonard; and a daughter-in-law, Sandi Wannemacher. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gerard Catholic Church. The Rev. Joy Poonoly will officiate. Entombment will be in Gethsemani Mausoleum, Lima. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, where a wake service will begin at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gerard School, 1311 N.
