Orville L. Redmond 83, died at 7:35 a.m. January 19, 2010, at Cridersville Health Care Center. He was born August 15, 1926, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, to Elige and Oatie Evans Redmond, who preceded him in death. On December 20, 1963, he married Jean Schmiedebusch Sheely, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Redmond was a member of Lima Baptist Temple and its men?s Sunday school class. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from September 11, 1944, to June 28, 1946. He retired as a crane operator from Teledyne/Ohio Steel. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 975. He was a mall walker. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, camping, fishing and with his dogs, P.J. and Sheba. Survivors also include two daughters, Judy Mellinger, of New Mexico, and Donna Sue Pittman, of Florida; five stepsons, Don Rogers, of Lima, Ohio, James R. ?Jim? (Micki Shier) Rogers, of Plain City, Ohio, Bob Rogers, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jerry (Sharon) Rogers, of Toms River, N.J., and Bill Rogers, of Columbus, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Nancy Hall, of Deltona, Florida; two sisters, Rose Flanigan, of New Orleans, and Billie Rae (Lee) Noel, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and his close friend, Herman Perry, of Lima, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a brother, Estile Redmond; and two sisters, Lucille Pritchard and Mildred Cook. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Bluelick Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and noon until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
