Paul L. Brown
Paul L Brown, age 89, passed away with his family by his side, Wednesday, April 27, 2016, after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Mary Ann (Owens) Brown; children, Paul Michael (Terry) Brown, Frances Yvonne (Lonzo) Coleman, Dr. John Frederick (Bonnie) Brown, William Edward (Wista) Brown, Brenda Renee Brown, Teresa Brown Adams, Arkley Owen Brown; brother Dr. Clarence Edward Brown; sisters Alice Lois Neal and Anne Marie Elam.
He's also survived by grandchildren Leah (Brown) Cole, Hillary (Brown) Carpenter, Samantha Brown, Kelli (Coleman) Taylor, Kiana (Coleman) Gannaway, Chis Coleman, Andrew Brown, Adam Brown, Ayanna (Brown) Davis, Alicea (Brown) Wortham, Ana (Brown) Lowery, Alyssa Adams, Aubrey Adams, Alec Adams, Austin Brown and great-grandchildren Ian Cole, Caleb Press, Josh Press, Chloe Press, Edward Taylor, Jr., Cole Taylor, Naomi Gannaway, Zoey Gannaway, Bria Davis, Ayla Davis, Liam Davis, Amara Brown, Sydney Wortham, Kira Wortham, Xavier Lowery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Allie Mae (Harmon) Brown; children Philip Douglas Brown and Shelby Eugene Brown; brothers James Cornelius Brown, John Hazel Brown, and Emuel Wauzine Brown; sisters Theron Othella Brown and Evelyn Edwinna Brown.
Born in Meridian, Mississippi in 1926, Paul later moved to Lima, Ohio, where he graduated from South High School Class of 1944. He was subsequently drafted by the United States Army where he served at Fort Glenn in the Aleutian Islands during World War II.
Before embarking on a lengthy career as the Plant Safety Director for the Standard Oil Company, Paul worked as a machinist at Nickel Plate Railroad and an engineer at Buckeye Rubber Products. Upon retiring from the Standard Oil Company, he worked as a Safety Consultant for Tilton Corporation. He was a proud member of the Society of Safety Engineers.
Paul was a faithful servant to God and his community. He attended Second Baptist Church where he served as longtime member of the trustee board. He was an enthusiastic member and past Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis where he will fondly be remembered as the "grill master" for the annual Kiwanis barbeque. As a fervent supporter of education, Paul served as past president of the Elida School Board. In addition, he served for over 40 years on the Allen County School Board. He also served on several community boards including the Occupational Safety and Health Board, Allen County Port Authority Board, Allen County Service Center Board and American Red Cross Board. Paul was a 32nd degree Mason with the Samuel W. Clark Lodge in Lima, Ohio.
Paul loved giving tours of his beautifully manicured yard and ponds. He was active participant in the Allen County Pond Society, an avid golfer, Ohio State fan and Ford Mustang enthusiast.
Visitation will be Friday, April 29 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30 at Second Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. in Lima, Ohio.
