Paul H. Woehlke
74, died at 9:45 on March 28, 2016 at Lima St. Rita's Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on September 12, 1941 in Jackson Heights, NY to L. Paul and Marion H. Woehlke, who preceded him in death.
On December 21, 1964 he married to Genoveva Dragone who survives and they have been happily married for 51 years. Paul was a 1959 graduate of Trinity School in Manhattan, New York and received an undergraduate degree in Economics from Utah State University and a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He received a Fellowship in Hospital Administration from American College of Hospital Administrators. He began his professional career as Administrative Assistant of Lafayette Home Hospital in Lafayette, Indiana. He moved to Lima, Ohio in 1971 and work as Assistant Administrator for Lima St Rita's Hospital. He later joined Lima Memorial Hospital as Vice President where he worked for 23 years. Paul earned his real estate license and went back to Lima St. Rita's Hospital where he assisted in their expansion until his retirement. After his retirement Paul focused on his volunteering, worked as a substitute teacher for Allen County School District (mostly substituting at Lima Senior,) gained his Master Gardener certification and worked as Director of Development for the Lima Convalescent Home Foundation. He was an avid reader, enjoyed photography, gardening, volunteered at numerous charities, spending time with his children, both two legged and four legged, spending time in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, and stopping to talk to anyone and everyone who crossed his path. Paul's volunteer work also paralleled his successes in life. Serra Club, The Lions, The Elks, American Cancer Society, Team Leader for United Way, Lima YMCA, Shawnee Band Boosters, Western Ohio Hospital Council, Marimor, Eucharistic Minister at St. Charles Catholic Church and many more. He will be remembered by the many lives he touched as a gentle, kind, compassionate soul. His thoughtfulness and great interest in everyone he met a long history of commitment to his community as a selfless man with high integrity. He never met a stranger in his life and will be remembered and missed by those who knew him and especially by those who loved him.
Survivors also include his son Kirk M. Woehlke, of Lima; a brother Peter Woehlke, of North Carolina; Niece and Nephews Melissa, Paul and Lee Woehlke; Family in Buenos Aires, Argentina Jose Luis, Susana, and Jose Maria Munso, Marga and Laura Berruezo; and good friend of the Sierra Club of Lima, Ohio Tim Mikesell. He was preceded in death by his sons Ian and Erik Woehlke; his Parents, L. Paul and Marion Woehlke.
A Memorial Mass will begin at 10 am Saturday, April 2nd at St. Charles Catholic Church. Father Steve Blum, Father David Ross and Father David Beck will officiate. Friends may visit one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lima Convalescent Home Foundation; St. Rita's Hospice; St. Charles Catholic Church; Ohio State University THE JAMES Hematology Department or the charity of the donor's choice.
