Ralph Francis Gatrell

Ralph Gatrell, 88, of Lima, passed on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 4:45 p.m. at his home. He was born on December 6, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Ralph and Nellie {Ohern} Gatrell.

Ralph was a graduate of St. John’s Catholic School in Lima, class of 1952. He attended the University of Dayton and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked at Alpine Village until it closed and then retired from the Allen County Sherriff’s Office in 2014, where he was the head chef. He loved sports, especially Lima Central Catholic, Ohio State, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He is survived by his daughters: Michelle (Bill) Blackwell, Ellen Gatrell, and Elizabeth (Rick) Suever, grandchildren: Billy (Tina) Blackwell, Timothy (Taynara) Blackwell, Brian Blackwell, Brandyn (Leslie) Suever, Kyle (Amanda) Suever, Trisha (Greg) Metzger, and Christa Suever, and 13 great-grandchildren.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, where a rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Lima. Entombment will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery Mausoleum.
