Ray Chafin, 80, died at 6:17 p.m. June 5, 2008, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born Aug. 2, 1927, in McVeigh, Ky., to Pearl and Ora Griffith Chafin, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 14, 1948, he married Jo Annette Garrett, who survives in Lima. Mr. Chafin had been a road and bridge inspector for the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. He had been a Cub Scout leader for Pack 82, Bath. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He spent several winters in Zephyrhills, Fla., where he was a member of a shuffleboard club and was city champion. Survivors include two sons, Garrett (Marsha Locbbaka) Chafin, of Elida, and Alan (Amy) Chafin, of Lima; five grandchildren, Darren (Jenni) Chafin, Alisha Chafin, Jennifer (Jeff) Selby, Heather Moore and Justin Hertel; and five great-grandchildren. Andrew, Reece, Isaiah, Desiree and Legend. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronald B. Cannon and Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate.
