RAYMOND JOHN SROUFE, 76, died at 8:28 p.m. June 1, 2007, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born August 10, 1930, in Hamilton, Ohio to Charles and Elizabeth M. Soltez Sroufe, who preceded him in death. On August 19, 1948, he married Naomi L. Thomson, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Sroufe was retired from Allen Correctional Institution and Erie Lackawanna-Conrail Railroad. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Lima, Ohio. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He enjoyed golfing and car races. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who rode for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Lima Motorcycle Club and had served as its treasurer. Survivors also include a daughter, Louise (Larry) Sassi, of Lima, Ohio; two sons, Steven J. (Cheryl) Sroufe, of Pickerington, Ohio, and James H. (Kimberly) Sroufe, of Lima, Ohio; a sister, Edith Briggs, of Lima, Ohio; and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bill Briggs; a brother, John "Bud" Mester; and a sister, Elizabeth Mester. A memorial service will be held later. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
