Rebecca "Becky" Mathews

Rebecca “Becky” Mathews, 72, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at her residence.

Becky was born on April 8, 1953, in Lima, Ohio to James H. and Clara Louise (Thines) Gillispie. On March 26, 1988, she married Alan Mathews, who survives in Lima.

Becky was a 1971 graduate of Lima Central Catholic. Becky enjoyed gardening and listening to music. She also loved to look nice, the color purple and her jewelry.

A special thanks to the home nurses who helped take care of Becky, she was a fighter to the very end.

She is survived by her husband, Alan; granddaughter, Katie Mariotti; many nieces and nephews including, Shannon and Shawn Eley; many great-nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, Dave and Teddy Hitchen.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jenna Gillispie; siblings: Melody Eley, Rob Gillispie, Jim Gillispie, and Cindy Nolte; and a bother-in-law, Randy Hitchins.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. Burial will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
