Richard H. Closson, Jr., 67 of Lima, Ohio, died at 3:15PM on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 6, 1944 in Putnam County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Richard H. Closson, Sr. and the late Rozella (Rigdon) Closson. On April 7, 1979 he married Ruth (Riemesch) Closson.
Mr. Closson was a charter member of the Republican National Committee and a member of the VFW in Columbus Grove, Ohio, and the K of C. He graduated from Wright State University with two degrees; a Bachelor of Science in Business degree (Cum Laude) and an Associate of Arts degree. He was employed by the U.S. Government as a contract administrator at the Chrysler Lima Tank Plant. He was involved in the transition of Lima Army Modification Center to an active contractor operated installation for production of the XM1 tank. He enjoyed painting, working in the yard, bantering with friends and family about politics and current events, visiting with friends and neighbors and acknowledging passersby with a friendly wave. He was known and loved for his friendly smile and hearty laugh. He considered being recognized for his genealogical research and contributions by Richard Cochran, author of "The Closson Genealogy, Volume 1", as one of his greatest accomplishments. His special joy was spending time with his family and grandkids. He was an avid reader and enjoyed communicating with friends and family via the internet. He served in the U.S. Army from April, 1961 to April, 1964.
He was survived by two sons, Andrew James (Merry) Closson of Mason, OH and Jordan Michael (Andrea Agler) Closson of Van Wert, OH; three brothers, Mark (Gail) Closson of Ottawa, OH; Albert (Kristen) Closson of Elkridge, MD and Dwight (Carmen) Closson of Glandorf, OH; eight sisters, Rebecca (Emmett) Leeth of Middle Point, OH; Sue (Ron) Myers of Van Wert, OH; Kathy (Bill) Nichols of Lima, OH; Patty (Dave Tucker) Kuhlman of Columbus Grove, OH; Sandy Edinger of Columbus Grove, OH; Donna (Todd) Worchuck of Van Wert, OH; Michelle (Tom) Liebrecht of Ottawa, OH and Dawn (Tim) Maag of Ottawa, OH. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Devanne Dion and Peyton Andrew Closson of Van Wert, OH and Sophia Lynn, Katherine Noelle and Bethany Anne Closson of Mason, OH; two step-grandchildren, Samuel Joseph and Luke Hanlon Griner of North Webster, IN and two special children Austin and Seth Agler; and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with the Chaplain Herb Wilker officiating. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos, OH., with a Graveside Military Honors conducted by VFW 1275-Lima.
