Richard H. ?Rick? Jenkins, 57, died at 5:16 a.m. November 29, 2010, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born December 24, 1952, in Lima, Ohio to Norman Sr. and Annabelle Ward Jenkins, who preceded him in death. On October 28, 1972, he married Nancy L. Graham, who survives in Cairo, Ohio. Mr. Jenkins was a 1971 graduate of Bath High School. He retired in 2004 after 30 years as a case manager from Lima Correctional Institution, where he created and implemented the FUTURE Program for troubled youth in northwest Ohio. The program gained statewide recognition and was the forerunner for similar programs in the prison system. Following his retirement, he worked at Colonial Golfers Club, where he enjoyed interacting with the public. It made him happy to add a piece of art or a sign to the course. Co-workers knew he had a joke for every situation and projected humor into some of the most trying times. His cartoons at the workplace are legendary, as well as his jokes, and have been circulated throughout the years. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, where he was a lector and Eucharistic minister. One of his passions was participation in the Toledo Diocesan Cursillo Movement. He thought the weekend retreats at the Cursillo were one of his most spiritual and thought-provoking times shared with others. The Cursillo was a beneficiary of several of his artistic pieces. His artwork was admired and enjoyed by family, friends, schools and organizations. Whether he was painting a cartoon or a beautiful mural for a new grandchild, he would work diligently to create something beautiful for people to enjoy for years to come. His name is attached to many works in the area that will be admired for generations. He was involved with Encore Theatre, where he participated in several productions and contributed with his art. He and his brother designed and painted every marquee display for the last 88 productions on the side of the theater. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting, but his favorite pastime was watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports at Bath High School. He took great pride in their activities and was a firm believer in allowing coaches to coach, while being a staunch supporter from the side. He possessed the rare quality of containing emotions during a contest and would find the competition factor admirable regardless of the outcome. He was a reader for the Allen County Swamp Creek Quiz Bowl competition for the last 10 years. He thought the matches should be held in the same regard as athletic contests. His dream was to see a match in the football stadium on a Friday night. His preparation was precise and he enjoyed researching the questions prior to the contest. Survivors also include two sons, Neil (Anissa) Jenkins and Bobby (Kelly) Jenkins, both of Cairo, Ohio; a daughter, Renea Jenkins, of Cairo, Ohio; three grandchildren, Cameron Jenkins, Kaylie Jenkins and DeLaynee Jenkins, all of Cairo, Ohio; four siblings, Weldon (Debbie) Jenkins, of Graham, N.C., Lorna (Robert) Kaliski, of Las Vegas, Juanita (Conley) Kissick, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and David (Tam) Jenkins, of Lima, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Betty Graham, of Lima, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Doug (Suzanne) Graham, of Lima, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Deb (John) Vandemark, of Cairo, Ohio, and Susan (Philip) Thomas and Pat (Mark) Hanthorn, both of Lima, Ohio.
