Elida- Richard Thomas Johnson 78, died at 11:16 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at home. Our dad and mom are together again!!
Richard (Dick) was born April 11, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio to Stanley E. and Elizabeth M. (Weinert) Johnson. On Saturday, March 29, 1958 in Lima, he married Joyce Fay Mason. Joyce passed away July 8, 2014. They had been married for 56 wonderful years!! Dick attended school at St. Rose Catholic Church, Lima. Dick retired from Ford Motor Company after 35 ½ years of service, from August 16, 1960 to January 1, 1996. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves from 1959 to 1963. He was also a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. League P.F.C. Leonard F. Mason, Detachment 1063 Lima Ohio. Leonard F. Mason was his brother-in-law.
Dick is survived by a daughter; Rachelle (Steve) Lane, Elida, three sons; William (Bill) Johnson, Robert (Bob) Johnson, Lima, and Brian (Deanna) Johnson, Severna Park, MD. Ten grandchildren; Ashleigh Clay, Alissa Monnin, Tyler Johnson, Michael Erb, Kayla Lane, Angelica, Sarah, and Arthur Johnson, Aiden and Maddie Johnson; thirteen great grandkids; Camdyn, Cooper, Makynlie, and Maylie (due June 9th) Clay, Finley Reutter, Brynlie and Beckham Johnson, Brice Wirgau, Ivy Johnson, and Peyton Proffitt, Zoie Snider, Jacob Canter, and Killian Jeski. Sister-in-laws Shirley Johnson and Lauretta Evans; brother-in-laws Larry (Kathy) Mason and Urbanus "Banny" Crites.
Dick was preceded in death by a grand child Zachary Johnson and a brother Robert S. Johnson. Dick also leaves behind all his beloved cats, especially Jinx, Buddy, and Cutie Pie.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Chamberlain Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The U.S. Marine Corp League P.F.C. Leonard F. Mason Detachment 1063 will provide a memorial service during the latter viewing.
A Mass Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at St. Rose Catholic Church at N. West St. and W. McKibben St., Lima, Ohio. Father David Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery. Dicks "favorite foods" lunch will be prepared by the St. Rose Service League immediately following at St. Rose Catholic Church.
