Richard L. Meyer,

94, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2015 in his home.

Richard was born in Lima August 29, 1920 to the late Lawrence & Margaret (Heckman) Meyer. He married Mary Louse Binkley on November 9, 1946; who preceded him in death on Febuary 10, 2014.

Mr. Meyer retired in 1983 from Tilton Corporation where he was manager of the Industrial Sheet Metal Division. Prior to that, he was the manager of The National Cornice Company. He was a member of St. Gerard's Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council, building committee, President of the Athletic Committee, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the first Lima Central Catholic Athletic Board and school advisory board. He was a director of the Gethsemani Cemetery for thirteen years. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 9th Air Force Engineers for two years in Europe. There he received four bronze stars and a Presidential Unit Citation.

He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 where he served as an officer for fifteen years. He was also a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Loyalty Council 2661, Life Member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #54, American Legion Post #96, Fraternal Order of Eagles #370, Catholic Order of Foresters, Dayton Contractors Association and Dayton Sheet Metal Workers Local #24.

He is survived by: sons, James (Alicia), Robert J. (Karen) and Thomas M. (Cindy) Meyer; daughter, Kathleen Windau; grandchildren, Jason Meyer, Christie (Andy) Eyler, Laura (Adam) Himelson, Cheryl (Michael) Troyer, Erica (Shaun) Ryan, Bethany (Steve) Caravati, Kelly Meyer, Mark Windau; great grandchildren, Scarlett Eyler, Samuel Eyler, Ellen Troyer, Marc Troyer, Conner Ryan, Liam Ryan, Harrison Ryan and a great granddaughter due in October.

He was preceded in death by his brother Harold Meyer, his sisters, Mary Lenore Morrisey, Edna Green and Angie Weber; brothers-in-law, Walt Morrisey, Robert Green and Paul Weber and sister-in-law Ruth Meyer.

A very special thank you to Home Instead Senior Care, Lima for their extraordinary compassion and care for our dad. A special thanks also to the staff on the fourth floor K-Wing at St. Rita's Hospital and St. Rita's Hospice.

The family will receive family and friends Monday, August 3, 2015 from 4 - 8 P.M. with a parish wake service at 8 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.

A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Gerard's Church, 240 West Robb Avenue, Lima, Ohio 45801. Father Jim Szobonya will officiate. Entombment will be at Gethsemani Mausoleum. Military rites will be conducted by Post 1275.
