Richard Dick Staup

Richard M. ?Dick? Staup 79, died at 6:58 p.m. November 22, 2009, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born April 21, 1930, in Lima, Ohio to Morris and Mary Moore Staup, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 8, 1994, in Lima, he married Anna L. Slone, who survives in Lima. Mr. Staup graduated from Central High School in 1948. He then attended The Ohio State University. He was a sales representative for Reiter Dairy. He had also worked at Montgomery Wards until it closed. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Lima, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Disabled Veterans of America and American Legion Post 96. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid golfer and had won the Lima City Men?s Golf Championship Senior Division in 1985. He also won the Father-Son City Golf Tournament with his son, Jim. Survivors also include a son, James (Debbie) Staup, of Spencerville, Ohio; a daughter, Brenda Liddell, of Illinois; three stepchildren, Larry (Phyllis) Hicks, Carol (Craig) Montgomery and Greg (Noreen) Hicks, all of Lima, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Martha Staup, of Lima, Ohio; a niece, Tonya Staup, of Lima, Ohio; a nephew, Scott Staup, of Lima, Ohio; and seven step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Staup. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Blum will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery with a military service by VFW Post 1275 at noon Friday. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church or VFW Post 1275.
