Richard J. ?Dick? Stolly 80, died at 4:30 p.m. June 18, 2009, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born December 12, 1928, in Lima, Ohio to Victor J. and Mary I. Quinlan Stolly, who preceded him in death. On May 17, 1952, he married Joan E. Williams, who survives. They raised six children, who had 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Stolly was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Rose Catholic High School in 1946. He was an insurance agent who began his career with Fidelity and Casualty Insurance in Cleveland in 1947. He later returned to join his father, Victor, in 1952, at Stolly Insurance Agency and became a chartered property casualty underwriter in 1962. Throughout his life, he educated others, sharing knowledge of his career. He served as trustee to the Ohio Independent Insurance Agents Association and secretary treasurer of the Lima Insurance Board. In 1968, he organized ?Give A Christmas? program to feed less fortunate families during the holidays, which continues today at St. Charles Catholic Church. He also founded the Catholic College Connection Program in 1999. He was active in the U.S. Council of Serra International, serving as treasurer and later becoming the first president of the U.S. and Canadian council. He was a community leader and involved in many local boards including Chartered Trustee of Lima Central Catholic Endowment Fund, Ecumenical Service to Community Church People for Change and Reconciliation and a board member of West Central Ohio Kidney Foundation. He was inducted into the Lima Central Catholic Hall of Fame for community service in 1997. He was considered a visionary by many friends and colleagues. Survivors include four sons, Mark (Alba) Stolly, Tim (Theresa) Stolly, Bill (Kathleen) Stolly and Kevin (Lori) Stolly, all of Lima, Ohio; two daughters, Janet (John) Dornick and Barb (Mike) O?Connor, both of Lima, Ohio; two brothers, John (Naomi) Stolly, of Texas, and Robert (Mary Margaret) Stolly, of Lima, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Stolly, of Florida, and Nancy Stolly, of Bellefontaine, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, Joy, Julia, Jason, Adam, Patrick, Eric, Jarod, Ben, Brad, Joel, Austin, Rachael, Tyler, Aidan, Ethan, Madison, Nathan and Olivia; two great-grandchildren, Brevan and Emma. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Stolly, two brothers, Tom and James ?Jim? Stolly; and two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Addison. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Stephen Blum and Father David Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery.
