Richard A. “Rich” Flick Sr., 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at his home in Lima. Rich was born on December 19, 1934 in Lima, Ohio to Joseph H. Sr. and Earleen R. (Berry) Flick, who preceded him in death. On November 23, 1957 he married the love of his life, Patricia L. Christen who survives him.
Rich was a 1953 graduate of St. Rose High School. Upon graduation Rich worked in the men’s department at The Leader store in downtown Lima. In 1957 he became an insurance investigator for Retail Credit Co./Equifax Inc. for 39 years, retiring in 1993. He was an active member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #54 and Eagles Post #370.
Rich’s greatest joy was spending time with his loved ones. He was an avid golfer sharing his love for the game with his entire family. He enjoyed coaching his children and grandchildren, and attending all of their sporting events and activities. He was a hard worker, warm and kind, quick with a smile and a great sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children: Richard A. Flick Jr. of Kenneth City, FL; James J. (Carol) Flick of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; Patricia E. (Eric) Keefer of Charlotte, NC; Julie M. (Paul) Kesner of Lima, OH; Sheila J. Balyeat of Bend, OR; and David C. (Carrie) Flick of Wilmette, IL. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Paul (Lauren) Kesner, Patrick (Colleen) Kesner, Jim (Sara) Kesner, John and Danny Kesner, Sam (Ali) Balyeat, Alaina (Alex) Lacter, Atticus Balyeat, Nicholas and Meredith Keefer, Jackson, Matthew, Lucas and Ava Flick; 2 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Patricia G. Zimerle of Holland, OH and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his siblings: Joseph H. Flick Jr., William L. Flick, Carol A. Funni and Mary J. Zarro; and brothers-in-law: Jack Funni, John Zarro and Kenneth Zimerle; sisters-in-law: Joan Flick and Jeanette Flick.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2021 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, followed by a Parish Wake service. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at St. Gerard Catholic Church. Fr. Mike Sergi will officiate. Burial will follow at Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima. The Mass can be viewed via live streaming from St. Gerard Church’s website.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gerard Catholic Church, Right to Life or the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
