Robert J. Jones 79, of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Lima, died at 6:13 p.m. August 4, 2007, at his residence. He was born January 5, 1928, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, to Henry C. and Mary Susan Johns Jones, who preceded him in death. On June 5, 1955, he married D. Arleen Martin, who survives in Tucson, Arizona Mr. Jones had been a welder at Duff Truck Lines, Lima, Ohio, and United Van Lines, Tucson, Arizona. He had also worked in security at the University of Arizona. As a young man, he had been a member of the Thankful Four Quartet, which traveled with the Rev. Beckham Stanley to revivals and all-day singings. He was the bass singer of the group, which also included Don Mason, Macie Cowen and Lorraine England. He was a veteran of the Army and served four years in the Navy, where he was stationed in Japan. Survivors also include a daughter, Pamela (Jon) Tornquist, of Tucson, Arizona; two grandsons, Andrew (Natalle) Tornquist and Brian Tornquist, both of Tucson; two sisters, Thelma Fifer, of Tazewell, Tennessee, and Dora Mason, of Lima, Ohio; and two brothers, Paul Jones and Raymond (Lucy) Jones, both of Middlesboro, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James ?Bud,? Jones, Ted Jones, and Henry ?Junior? Jones; and two sisters, Hattie Ellison and Martha Marcum. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Terry Brock will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Friends may call one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
