Robert H. ?Bob? Kirk, 86, died at 2:40 a.m. February 21, 2008, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born September 7, 1921, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Homer and Buella Childers Kirk, who preceded him in death. On April 20, 1956, he married Fusako ?Rose? Kirk, who survives in Elida, Ohio. Mr. Kirk retired in 1986 from Vistron, Lima, Ohio. He had also retired as a chief petty officer from the Navy after 25 years. He served from 1942 to 1967, during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He had served aboard the USS Ajax, the USS Piedmont, the USS Sperry and the USS Nereus. He also served as a pattern maker aboard the USS Williamsburg, which was President Harry Truman?s presidential yacht. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. He was a born again Christian who loved his Lord. As a part of his ministry, he owned and operated Sound Wave Christian Tape Ministry and was a volunteer with WTGN Christian Radio. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. He was a 1939 graduate of Kenton High School, Kenton, and a 1941 graduate of Ohio Mechanics Institute of Cincinnati. He loved to fish and was a diehard Cincinnati Reds fan. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors also include a son, James (Lisa) Kirk, of Elida, Ohio; two grandchildren, James (Morgan) Kirk and Justin (Brooke) Kirk, both of Elida, Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Kirk, Brady Kirk and Skyler Kirk. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Kirk. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Elida, with military rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
