Rev. Robert I. Muhler,
89, of Lima, Ohio died on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at 3:03 P.M.at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.

Born March 1, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harry L. Muhler and the late Lillian (Riehm) Muhler.

Rev. Robert I. Muhler married Ann Hall on September 4, 1960. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2011. He served in the United States Army in the European Theatre as a Scout Corporal during WWII. His unit liberated Buchenwald Concentration Camp in Germany. After the war, he earned his bachelor's degree in French Studies at the University of Delaware, while also studying abroad for a year at the University of Paris-Sorbonne in France. He then received theological training at Princeton Theological Seminary, and later his Masters degree from Bowling Green State University in rehabilitation counseling. Throughout his ministry Rev. Muhler served as a hospital chaplain at Lima Memorial Hospital, and a supply pastor at many different churches. He served the bulk of his career as a mental health counselor in the Lima and Kenton communities. He was involved in A.C.C.E. (Allen County Citizens for the Environment). He was a member of the Maumee Presbytery, and actively attended Market Street Presbyterian Church. He was an avid reader, writer, and thinker. While he was a devout Christian, Rev. Muhler had a profound respect and appreciation for other faiths.

Surviving are: a son, Harry Muhler of Lima, OH; two daughters, Alice (David) Kennedy of London, OH and Sara (Kevin) Good of Brecksville, OH; six grandchildren, Ruth, Susanna, Matthew, Nicholas, Benjamin, and Timothy.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Muhler.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Market St. Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dottie Kaiser officiating.
