68, died at 2:06 PM on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.
Bob was born on November 22, 1946, in Lima, Ohio, to the late James Walter Newton and Thelma Mary (Ireland) Newton. On November 21, 1981, he married Paula Meihls. She survives in Lima.
Bob was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa who didn't know a stranger. In addition to his family, he leaves behind numerous friends, including Mike Vieira and his best friend of over 60 years, Tom Zeller. He was an avid golfer and poker player. He loved The Ohio State Buckeyes and he also loved fast cars. He proudly served in the United State Navy during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by a son, Robert J. Newton II, of Columbus, OH; a daughter Marcey Godfrey, of Lima, OH; a son Rob Sampson, of Lima, OH; a son, Bryan (Linda) Sampson, of Lima, OH, and a daughter, Melissa Conner, of Lima, OH: nine grandchildren, Layken, Ally, Megan, Lauren, Jessie, Gage, Keagan, Mikaylah, and McKenzie; three sisters, Sharon (John) Bilopavlovich, of Lima, OH, Beverly Harshman, of Murfreesboro, TN, and Janet (Merrick) Thomas, of CO; several nephews & nieces; and a devoted pet, Babe.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A funeral service will begin at 7:00 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, OH. Chaplain John Christoff will officiate.
Burial of cremains will occur at a later date.
