ROBERT G. RHOADES, 84, died at 7:30 a.m. March 30, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Lima to Raymond and Fern Pickering Rhoades, who preceded him in death. On May 9, 1943, he married Dorothea E. Plaugher, who survives in Lima. Mr. Rhoades retired as a tool and die maker from Superior Coach, and built model school buses and motor homes for the sales department. He also retired as an inspector from General Dynamics. He was a member of American Legion Post 96. He was a graduate of Lima Central High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving from Aug. 3, 1942, to Feb. 8, 1946. He was an amateur archaeologist and enjoyed fishing and history. Survivors also include a daughter, Sandra Kay of Lima; a brother, Dr. Bill (Mary Lou) Rhoades of Bloomington, Ind.; and three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Lee Hern; and a brother, Raymond J. Rhoades. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas E. Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Waynesfield. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
