71, died at 4:39 a.m. June 19, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio. He was born May 2, 1933, in Lima, Ohio to Clarence Robert and Agnes Walters Spencer, who preceded him in death. On January 1, 1970, in Lima, Ohio he married Kathryn Irene Smith Spencer, who survives in Columbus Grove, Ohio. He was formerly married to Marilyn Steiner Spencer, who preceded him in death. Mr. Spencer worked as an inspector for General Motors, Defiance, Ohio, where he retired January 1, 1994. He attended Vaughnsville Christian Union Church. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 211 Retirees. He loved fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. He served in the 101st Airborne Division of the Army during the Korean War. Survivors also include a daughter, Marilyn Sue (Kevin) McClain of Waynesfield, Ohio; three sons, the Rev. Marion F. (Janet) Spencer of Joelton, Tenn., Robert Rex (Debra) Spencer of Columbus Grove, Ohio and the Rev. William D. (Lynette) Spencer of Lima, Ohio; a daughter, Joyce Rice of Columbus Grove, Ohio; a son, Michael Allen (Staci) Spencer of Vaughnsville, Ohio; a brother, James Spencer of Lima, Ohio; three sisters, Eunice Roesmier and Betty Borges, both of Lima, Ohio, and Delma "Tiny" Newland of West Virginia; 19 grandchildren, Robert II, Chad, Mandy, Michelle, Shannan, Kristi, Renee, Andrew, Eric, Matt, Rachel, Amie, April, Amanda, LeAnn, Rebecca, Brandon, David and Haley; and five great-grandchildren, Shelby, Blake, Andrew, Joseph and Jeremy. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Spencer, Virgil Spencer and Marion Spencer; a sister, Shirley Grant; and a son, David Wayne Spencer. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Fish will officiate.
