ROBERT EDWARD "BUNT" STEMEN, 83, died at 10:10 p.m. May 19, 2007, at his residence. He was born July 2, 1923, in Elida, Ohio to Daniel G. and Sarah Victoria Krutch Stemen, who preceded him in death. On December 4, 1944, he married Jo Ann Turner, who survives. Mr. Stemen retired in 1983 after 30 years employment with Sears Roebuck as a department manager. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 36th Infantry Division in Italy, Africa and Sicily. He served in the Army from March 3, 1943, to February 24, 1946. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, Lima, Ohio. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved being with his family and friends and was married to his loving wife for 61 years. He enjoyed gospel music, played guitar, and was a talented woodworker. Fishing and hunting were his favorite sports. He was a founding member of the Lima Area Radio Control Airplanes. Survivors also include two daughters, Sheryl (Allen) Brenneman, of Goshen, Indiana, and Deborah (Charles) Cypher, of Lima, Ohio; two sons, Michael E. Stemen, of Lima, Ohio, and Kevin D. (Deborah) Stemen, of Conyers, Georgia; a sister, Evelyn (Ray) Schwartzkopf, of Nevada; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Ramer, Michelle Ester-Bode, Tanya Brenneman, Sarah Browning, Jason Stemen, Lindsay Battle, Benjamin Cypher and Logan Cypher; and nine great-grandchildren, Jordan Hershberger, Alyssa Hershberger, Drew Ester-Bode, Kealy Ester-Bode, Adam Ramer, Sam Ramer, Kiyah Battle, Makayla Battle and Ashlyn Browning. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Everett P. Stemen; a stepbrother, Howard Betts; and a stepsister, Grace Fears. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bluelick Bible Church. The Rev. Jim Neighbors will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Elida, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 1275.
