94, went home to be with the Lord at 10:30 p.m. May 23, 2015 at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born November 20, 1920 in Lima, Ohio, the son of Carl and Ida (Shade) Swick. He married Jean A. Fleming on March 31, 1950 and she survives in Lima.
Mr. Swick was retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation of Lima, Ohio, and had previously worked at Carrier Corporation of Memphis, Tennessee as a Manufacturing Engineer. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple where he had served as a Deacon. He also served as a deacon at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, and as an elder at Rousculp Church of Christ in Lima, Ohio.
He served his country as a U.S. Marine during World War II. He participated in four battles in the Pacific against the Japanese and was wounded on the tenth day of the battle for Iwo Jima for which he received the Purple Heart.
He served his community as a school board member at Perry school serving as President for one year.
He was a member of Garret Wykoff Lodge #585 Free and Accepted Masons for over 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Swick, a son, Daniel Swick, a daughter-in-law, Sandy Swick, three grandchildren; Stacie (Joel) Loughrin, Sara Swick and Steven (Kirstie) Swick: two great grandchildren, Gunnar Loughrin and Jana Loughrin
Survivors also include a brother, Ken (Lois) Swick of Englewood, Fl. and sister-in-law June Klopp of Lima. He was preceded in death by a brother Paul (Kate) Swick, a sister, Iris (Ira) Long ; a sister, Jane (Frank) Schaffer; and in-laws Leigh and Maxine Sweeney , Joe and Pat Fleming and Robert Klopp.
The family will receive guests from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home with a Masonic Service by the Lima Lodge 205 F & AM at 8:00 P.M. Also visitation will be one hour prior to the service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Lima Baptist Temple, Lima, Ohio. Pastor Gary Hohman and Pastor Craig Clapper will officiate.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with Graveside Military Honors to be conducted by the VFW Post 1275.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Baptist Temple.
