Robert Eugene Williams, 79, died at 11:30 a.m. November 11, 2008, at his residence, following a short illness, with his loved ones by his side. He was born November 3, 1929, in Newark to Walter and Monad Keenan Williams, who preceded him in death. On April 24, 1949, he married Rose J. Williams, who died February 9, 2006. Mr. Williams had worked at Westinghouse, Rawls and South Side Christian Church, where he was also a member. He was a member of the Colonial Golfers Club, where he was a volunteer for the last 18 years in the pro shop. He was a 1949 graduate of Lima South High School, where he had been active in sports. He had played minor league baseball for the Washington Senators. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and supported them in their sports activities. Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Elwood) Nichols and Sandra L. Williams, both of Lima, Ohio two sons, David R. (Penny) Williams, of Lima, Ohio, and Keith (Jamie) Williams, of Wapakoneta, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Angela, Missy, Holly, Emily, Kelsey, Kayla and Jenna; five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Cera, Robby, Matthew, Brady and a sixth coming soon; two sisters, Edna (Ralph) Davis and Karen (Richard) Osborn, both of Lima, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Williams, of Cuyahoga Falls. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Hollar; and a brother, Harold Williams. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
