Robert Williams

ROBERT V. WILLIAMS, 82, died at 1:48 p.m. Oct. 5, 2006, at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Vaughnsville to J. Walter and Cleo B. Auchmuty Williams, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 24, 1949, at Olivet Presbyterian Church in Lima, he married Mary Lou Moyer, who survives in Lima. Mr. Williams retired from Teledyne Ohio Steel, where he worked for 36 years. He was a member and usher of the Zion Lutheran Church. Before that, he was a member and a deacon at Olivet Presbyterian Church. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275, American Legion Post 96 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served from Sept. 21, 1943, to Jan. 25, 1946. He earned the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon with bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Victory Medal and a letter from President Harry Truman recognizing him for his great service to this country. He was supportive of academics. He was active in the PTA in Lima schools. He was a music and sports booster at both Lima and Elida schools. He loved boating and Ohio State football. He was especially supportive of The Ohio State University Marching Band. Survivors also include a son, John R. (Ann Koch) Williams of Elida; a daughter, Susan K. (David) Morman of Elida; a brother, Nolan Williams of Delphos; and five grandchildren, Steven Williams, Aubrey Williams and Jayson Williams, all of Elida, Michelle Morman (Jeff) Owen of Tipp City and Amanda Morman of Columbus. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and a brother-in-law, Bob Moyer. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Kent Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial donations to the charity of the donor's choice.
