ROBERT THOMAS WOODWARD, 86, died at 9:20 p.m. May 19, 2005, at Otterbein-Cridersville. He was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Lima to Samuel and Jessie Lundie Woodward, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 18, 1940, he married Helen Marie Ward, who died March 28, 1997. Mr. Woodward retired in 1983 as a security officer from the Lima State Hospital. He had also worked as a crane operator at Lima Locomotive Works and Lima Tank Depot. He was a life member of South Side Christian Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 96. He had donated 24 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross blood bank. He was a member of Lima South High School class of 1938. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from May 1, 1944, to Jan. 26, 1946, aboard the USS Petroclus in Tokyo Bay, Japan. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy (Kevin Reeks) Woodward of Lima; two nephews, Ray (Barbara) Barnes and David (Becky) Barnes; a niece, Carol (Robert) Kennedy; and several great-nieces and -nephews, great-great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Barnes and Janet Woodward; a brother, David Woodward and a cousin, Margaret Dibble. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas E. Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
