Roger E. Courtney

Roger Ellison Courtney, 82, passed away at 6:23 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital with his wife and son at his bedside.

Roger was born on October 23, 1938, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Claude and Anna Mae (Webb) Courtney.  On February 9, 1958 he married Sondra Jean “Soni” (Walti) Courtney (married 62 yrs, 10 mos), who survives in Lima, Ohio.

Roger was a 1956 graduate of Lima Senior High and worked in Automotive and Industrial sales at White Chevrolet, The Gibson Co., Steele’s Automotive, and Siferd-Hossellman Automotive and Industrial.  Prior to his retirement, he worked for Ross-Willoughby as inside industrial sales at General Dynamics.

Roger enjoyed woodworking and could build anything with his extensive woodworking shop.  He loved classic cars and restored a 1956 Thunderbird convertible in which he proudly tooled around town and in parades.  He also enjoyed University of Toledo FSAE Races, Autocross events, classic car shows, and bowling.  He loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandsons.  He was a big fan of 50s Rock and Roll music.  He had a very unique sense of humor and could make you laugh whether you wanted to or not.  His favorite departing comment was “Glad you got to see me!”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Roger Nelson (Cindy) Courtney; grandsons, Roger David (Tayler Smith) Courtney and Lloyd Martin Courtney; sister, Marjorie Patricia “Pat” Reed; sister, Sondra Sue (Ken) Dreitzler; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Martin Gilbert Courtney; brother, Claude Nelson Courtney; brother-in-law, David Porter; and brother-in-law, Ralph Reed.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.   A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.
