Roger R. Mawhorr,
88 of Lima, Ohio died on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 9:40 PM surrounded by his loving family, at Springview Manor Nursing Home in Lima, Ohio.
Born February 5, 1924 in Lima, Ohio, he was the son of the late Roy R. Mawhorr and the late Ida (Riggle) Mawhorr.
Roger married Winifred Carolus, the love of his life, on February 5, 1952. She survives in Lima. He was a veteran of the United States Army with the 52nd Engineers during WWII. He retired from the Lima Sohio/BP Refinery in 1983 after 38 years. He was a member of the South Side Christian Church; life member of the VFW Post 1275. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Cooties-Lima; the American Legion post 96-Lima; Eagles Aerie 370-Lima; a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #199-Lima. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes Fan, and also loved baseball, golf, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed singing and dancing.
Surviving are: two sons, Edward (Karen) Mowrey of Denver, CO and Michael (Jackie) Mawhorr of Mascoutah, IL; two daughters, Diana Bassitt of Lima, OH and Carol (Jeff) Felkey of Powell, OH; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Crawford of Lima, OH.
He was preceded in death by: a son, James Roger Mawhorr; a brother, Billy J. "Bid" Mawhorr; five sisters, Susie Eagy, Marie Loughridge, Helen Ferrall, Elizabeth Layton and Maxine Putt.
Visitation times will be on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, and Friday, October 12, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at South Side Christian Church with Rev. Doug Adams and Rev. Wanda Werking officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, OH. Graveside Military Service conducted by VFW Post 1275
