Rolland Smith

ROLLAND E. "ROLLIE" SMITH, 75, died at 8:15 a.m. October 13, 2004, at Springview Manor Nursing Home. He was born January 17, 1929, in Washington County to Herman and Ella Hedelson Smith, who preceded him in death. On Septmber 6, 1953, he married Dorothy Werner, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mr. Smith retired as director of Six County Waste District. He had also been a business manager at Apollo Joint Vocational School, public works director for the city of Lima and a construction engineer for Ohio Power in Beverly and Lima, Ohio. He had served on the Elida and Apollo school boards. He was very involved in the Republican Party and had been Lifetime Young Republican. He had been a member of Lodge 390 Free & Accepted Masons, Washington County, and the Eastside Lions Club. He was awarded the Boy Scouts Silver Beaver Award. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors also include two daughters, Martha "Marty" (Michael) Murray of Cincinnati, Ohio and Diana (Greg) Bowers of Elida, Ohio; two sons, Randy (Linda) Smith of Dublin, Ohio and Howard (Michele) Smith of Elida, Ohio; a sister, Roma Smith of Marietta, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Leann Smith; a great-grandson, Brady Bowers; a sister, Erma Smith; and three brothers, Dean Smith, Delmar Smith and Homer Smith. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Doug Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos, Ohio.
