Roy Poland,

Roy Donald ?Don? Poland Jr., 61, died Aug. 12, 2009, at his residence. He was born April 19, 1948, in Lima to Roy D. and Patty L. Briggs Poland Sr. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Lima. On June 2, 1980, he married Jeri Miley, who survives in Lima. Mr. Poland was a custodian for Elida public schools and at St. Luke Lutheran Church. He had also been a laborer at DTR Industries. He was a 1966 graduate of Lima Senior High School. In 1975, he received an associate degree from Santa Rosa Junior College in the science of forestry. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199. He was a Navy veteran serving from Aug. 22, 1966, to Dec. 1, 1968. He loved canoeing on the Mad River. Survivors also include a son, Dustin T. ?Dusty? Poland, who is serving in Iraq; three sisters, Cheryl (Michael) Burden, of Lima, Sandra (Tony) Hopper, of Enon, and Michelle Poland, of Lima; a brother, Douglas (Kris) Poland, of Botkins; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. There will be no services. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
