Roy D. Roby, 80, died at 5:28 p.m. February 16, 2008, at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born August 4, 1927, in Wooster, Ohio, to Roy and Mary Ellen Shamp Roby, who preceded him in death. On December 5, 1951, he married Sara Reel in Maryland and she survives in Elida. Mr. Roby had worked for Bank One. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was the mayor of Elida from 1969 to 1971. He was a member of Allen County Sportsmen and Farmers Association, the Lima Optimist Club, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 8, the Fort Amanda Lodge 706 Free and Accepted Masons, a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54, Lima, and Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Stan) Karcher, of Elida, Ohio, and Kim (Brad) Selover, of Lima, Ohio; two grandsons, Blake Selover and Troy Selover; and a granddaughter, Ann (Mark) Havericak. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Wilkins and Dorothy Fuchs. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard Allison will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where Masonic services will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Elida, Ohio.
