Sarah Ann Macpherson,
74 died at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Lima Memorial Health Systems after an extended illness. Born August 30, 1937, in Wichita Falls, TX, she was the oldest daughter of the late William Atkin Moore and Kathleen Ada Stocks. On December 16, 1961, she married Bertrand "Randy" Macpherson, who survives in Lima. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last month. Also surviving are two children, Richard D. Macpherson and Julia K. Macpherson, both of Lima, two granddaughters, Anna Lee Macpherson of Lima and Jessica Jane Albert of Kenton. Also, a "special" daughter, Paula Albert of Kenton, and two grandsons, Derrick and Dustin Albert of Kenton. She is survived by her sister, Lavacca Johnson of Kamay, Texas; niece Tracy Otto of Wichita Falls, TX; twin nephews, Darell E. and Lewis W. Johnson, both of Wichita Falls, TX. Sarah graduated from Wichita Falls Senior High School in May 1955 and went to work for the Wichita Falls Times. She started in the "society department," and as she excelled in typing and efficiency, she moved rapidly up the ladder. In 1960 she was appointed woman's editor of the Times and Record News, one of the youngest ever. She held that position until her marriage in December 1961. She moved to Lima with her husband and soon had a job at The Lima News. Sara worked on every newspaper that Randy did. She worked for awhile in Boise, ID, and in San Angelo, TX, before retiring to raise her children. In 1975, Sarah took a part-time job with The Lima News doing the church page. This turned into a full-time job with the paper a few years later. Sarah not only handled the religion news, but was the obituaries writer and assistant librarian. She retired again from the paper in 1985. A year later she went to work as a secretary at Siferd Funeral Homes on Cable Road. She found working with the public during times of stress satisfying. Then Sarah shifted to CSS Publishing Co. as an author's representative. Illness forced her retirement in the latter part of 1993. Over the years in Lima, Sarah enjoyed working with young children in various capacities, including bowling and the schools. She was also president of the Meadowbrook Condo Owner Assn. for one year. She also served as power-of-attorney for two women, Dot Clevenger and Olive Richie, both deceased. In retirement she has enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, computer games and television. In August 2000, Sarah and Randy took on the task of raising Julie's children, the infant Jessica and Anna. Taking care of the smaller child proved too difficult, so the couple continued with Anna.
