Selma Tickner
97, died at 11:46 AM on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Lima Memorial Health System in Lima, Ohio.
Selma was born on October 3, 1920, in Danville, Illinois, to the late George Johnson and Mary (Grimes) Johnson. On March 30, 1941, she married Franklin Tickner, who died on March 3, 2006.
Selma was an excellent seamstress having worked in garment factories near Danville, IL and Cape Cod, MA. Moving to Westminster, OH in 1947, she worked at Chapman's Market and then Frey's/Star's Greenhouse. For 37 years, she paid junior and senior fair premiums during the Allen County Fair. She was a member of the Old Union Church of Christ, Danville, IL and also belonged to the Westminster Social Improvement Club. She was known for her green thumb and ability to cook and bake. She annually had a huge summer garden and canned vegetables for the winter. Family and friends were always greeted at her door with an offer of delicious food she had just made. She also volunteered for the monthly breakfasts at the Masonic Lodge.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Joe) Sanders, of Harrod, OH; a granddaughter, Melissa (Jeff) Carroll of Fairfax, VA; great grandchildren, Thomas and Alexander Carroll, a brother-in-law, Robert Finley of Danville, IL and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty (Jack) Crose, and Margaret Finley.
The family will receive friends from 2-8 pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
A funeral service will begin at Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Rev. Elaine Mikesell will officiate.
Interment will be in Salem Westminster Cemetery.
