Shan Lee Scott, 73, died at 12:22 p.m. March 17, 2008, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. She was born August 8, 1934, in Elgin, Illinois, to Edmund and Dorothy Zickuhr Bergeman. Her parents preceded her in death. On June 1, 1985, she married Kenneth Howard Scott, and he survives in Spencerville, Ohio. Mrs. Scott worked as a legal secretary for attorney James King for 30 years. She was instrumental, along with Judge Richard Heeter, in organizing the Volunteer Probation Officers. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed her family. She had modeled clothing for both the Leader and Gregg?s department stores for charity fashion shows. She was a member of the American Saddlebred Horse Association and enjoyed traveling with her daughter to horse shows. She volunteered for Angels for Animals and loved all animals, including her four cats, Sebastian, Roscoe, Carson and Kelly. Survivors also include a son, Maurice L. Lewis, of Minneapolis; a daughter, Toree (Don) Hefner, of Spencerville, Ohio; a sister, Jeri N. (Byron) Niewendorp, of Iowa; a brother, Richard Bergeman, of Idaho; a stepdaughter, Karla (Kathleen Scowby) Scott, of Bellevue, Kentucky; a stepson, Kevin Scott, of Sarasota, Florida; two grandchildren Elizabeth (Scott) Siebert, of Lima, Ohio, and Jennifer Lewis, of Charlotte, N.Carolina, a great-grandchild, Jacob Williamson; and three stepgrandchildren Lily Scott-Scowby, Bret Scott and Brittany Scott. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Maurice Lewis. Private family services will be held. Pastor Michael A. Phillips will officiate. Following that service, the body will be cremated.
