Shirley A. McLaughlin

Shirley A. McLaughlin, 89, passed away at 11:22 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at The Springs of Lima. 

Shirley was born on May 20, 1935, in Fostoria, Ohio, to the late William and Dortha (Grant) Painter. On March 20, 1954, she married the love of her life, William F. McLaughlin, who preceded her in death on December 31, 2022, after 68 years of marriage.

Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Lima Central High School. She retired from Lazarus where she was a salesclerk. Shirley was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a former Member of Faith Missionary Church and enjoyed spending time with her church family. She also enjoyed singing hymns with her friends at The Springs.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Starr and Julie Treece; son, Keith McLaughlin; grandchildren, Kaitlynn (Edward) Parker, Michael (Nicole Meeker) Starr, and Megan (Kile Simpson) Starr; great-grandchildren, Boston Starr, Keigan Simpson, and Emma Parker; sisters-in-law, Mary Painter and Nancy Eagy; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Curtis Treece; siblings: Barbara (Dewey) Johnson, William Painter, Jack Painter, Richard Painter, and Delores (Walt) Rhoades; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery. 

The family would like to thank the staff at The Springs of Lima for their dedicated care and service to Shirley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lima Rescue Mission or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
