Sister Carolyn Makley 75, died at 3:25 p.m. August 24, 2007, at The Ridge at Shawnee. She was born May 3, 1932, in Lima, Ohio, the daughter of Alban and Cecil Spencer Makley, who preceded her in death. Sister Carolyn earned a Bachelor of Science in education from the College of Mount St. Joseph in 1967. She was born and raised in Lima, Ohio, where she attended St. Rose Grade School and graduated from St. Rose High School in 1952. Upon graduation from high school, she entered the congregation and received the religious name of Sister Rose Alban. Soon thereafter she fulfilled her dream of working with children when she began ministering at the St. Joseph Infant Home and Orphanage in Sharonville from 1954 to 1956. In 1956, she moved into the field of education. In Ohio she taught at St. Boniface School in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1960 to 1961; St. Albert School, Kettering, from 1961 to 1963 and 1968; St. Bernadette School, Westlake, from 1963 to 1968; Corpus Christi School, Dayton, Ohio, from 1968 to 1969; St. Charles School, Lima, Ohio, from 1969 to 1970; Lowell Public School, Lima, Ohio, from 1973 to 1978; Lincoln School, Lima, Ohio, from 1978 to 1979 and 1988 to 1989; St. Rose School, Lima, Ohio, from 1979 to 1988; and Roosevelt School, Lima, Ohio, from 1989 to 1990. Sister Carolyn also served the Diocese of Santa Fe, N. Mexico, at St. Mary School in Albuquerque from 1956 until 1960. The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, whose motherhouse is located in Delhi Township, a western suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio, is an apostolic Catholic women?s religious community that exists to carry out the gospel of Jesus Christ through service and prayer in the world. Sisters, using their professional talents as ministers of education, health care, pastoral and social services, live and minister in 17 U.S. states and in Guatemala and Mexico. They also sponsor institutions to address education, health care and social service needs, with particular concern for direct service to the poor. Survivors include, a sister, Jean Winter, of Lima, Ohio; two brothers, Robert (Marylee) Makley, of Lima, Ohio, and David (Lynda) Makley, of Lima, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Makley, of Columbus Grove, Ohio, and Virginia Makley, of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, Mount St. Joseph.
