Susanna "Sue" M. Harrod

Susanna “Sue” M. Harrod, 73, passed away at 2:26 p.m. on January 2, 2025, at Lima Memorial Hospital.  

Sue was born on May 6, 1951, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Richard Guy and Mary Margaret (Martin) Thompson. On July 14, 1989, she married Lynn A. Harrod, who preceded her in death on June 18, 2014. 

Sue held a Bachelor of Science degree. She worked at the West Ohio Food Bank. She was a member of American Legion Post 96, a life member of VFW Post 1275, and Amvets, where she was a Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 1. She was an Elvis Presley fan. Sue loved going out to eat with her friends and family. She liked collecting stuff, even if she had too many. Due to life circumstances, she raised many grandchildren. Sue had a heart of gold and would help anyone.  

She is survived by her children: Rodney Harrod, Melissa Loar, Antonio “Tony” Loar, and Mary (Ron) Fry Comden; a step-son Terry (Mandy) Hawkins; son-in-law, Ricky McDaniel; 30 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Cora (Wayne) Ryan, and Bernadean (David) Saylor; brother, John (Kathy) Thompson; and best friends, Darlene Robinson, Bonnie Melvin and Patty Leichty. 

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Shirley Evans; granddaughter, Lisa Evans; grandson, Alex Thompson; and sisters: Maxine Sherer, Charlotte Camper, Roma Vermillion, and Betty (Tom) Bartz; and brother, Richard Thompson Jr. 

The family will receive friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025, at the funeral home, with visitation two hours prior to the service. Lay-Minister Dave Belton will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Wapakoneta, Ohio.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allen County Veterans Services.
