Thomas was born on March 25, 1949, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Clarence G. Helmig and Marguerite M. (Maxwell) Helmig.
Thomas married Lois Pargeon on June 2, 1973, she survives in Lima, Ohio. He had worked in the heating and cooling business for over 40 years. He served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the V.F.W. and K of C. both of Lima. He was an avid Buckeyes and Browns fan. Loved his Buckeyes!! He also enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by a daughter, Emily (Mac McIntyre) Helmig; two grandchildren, Hannah Goodwin and Sofia Goodwin; two brothers, Ralph "Bud" (Janet) Helmig and Ed (Joanne) Helmig; his beloved pets, Molly, Sam and Maggie II; many nieces & nephews; a sister-in-law, Carol Helmig, a brother-in-law, Dick Wetzel.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cecelia Helmig, a brother, C.R. "J.R." Helmig, a brother Carl E. Helmig and a sister, Mary Wetzel.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at St. John's Catholic Church. Father David M. Ross will officiate.
Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
