Thomas G/ "Spanky" McNamara

Thomas G. "Spanky" McNamara,
74, passed on November 20, 2014. He was surrounded by family, spending his last moments at St. Rita's hospital. Tom was born in Lima, December 30, 1939 to the late Kathryn "Granny" McNamara. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Allison Michele McNamara. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Michelle "Mickie" McNamara (Emlinger); his three children, Tom "TG" (Terri) McNamara of Lima, Meegan (David) Moore of Powell, OH and Sean McNamara of Tiffin Developmental Center, Tiffin , OH. He will be dearly missed by his grandsons Patrick (Hannah) and Conor Moore. He was the older brother to his surviving siblings Patrick (Lois) McNamara of Pompano Beach, FL. and Kathy (Michael) Eley of Lima.
Tom was a lifelong resident of Lima. He worked seven years at Longmeier Direct Mail before spending many years in public service as a Law Enforcement Officer. Tom retired from the Lima City Police Department after 26 years of service. After "retirement" Tom worked as Police Chief of Forest, Ohio, Allen County Sheriff's Department, West Central Crime Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Agency. Tom also spent 8 years working for C&G Distributors.
In 2012, Tom was honored as the FOP Member of the Year. He was a Founding Father of the Lima Irish Parade, serving as Grand Marshall in 2007.
Tom loved NASCAR and fishing, including many annual trips to North Bay, Ontario. Tom had an artist's heart, creating beautiful paintings, pottery and recognized as the finest St. Patrick's Day face painter in history.
All who knew him will remember Tom with great joy.
Friends may call Monday, November 24, 2014 from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Chaplain John Christoff will officiate. The burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
