Thomas Oliver Torbet 77, died at 5:12 p.m. December 17, 2009, at The Ridge at Shawnee. He was born February 6, 1932, in Lima, Ohio to Harold and Catherine Torbet, who preceded him in death. On December 26, 1954, he married Sue Tiemeyer, who died November 10, 2004. Mr. Torbet was owner and operator of Jones Hardware and had retired from the Lima City Public Works Water Department. He was a member of New Creation Lutheran Church. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 199. He was an alumni of The Ohio State University and an avid fan of the Buckeyes. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He had been a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels at Lima Memorial Hospital for several years. Survivors include two sons, Russ (Christina) Torbet, of Delphos, Ohio, and Mark (Lisa) Torbet, of Elida, Ohio; a daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Passa, of Gahanna, Ohio; five grandchildren, Andrea (Bruce) Renner, Renee Torbet, Mark Smith, Jayne Passa and Elizabeth Passa; a brother, Robert (Ann) Torbet, of Lima, Ohio; and a sister, Suzanne Hagen, of Raleigh, N.Carolina. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Samuel Payne will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
