Vera Lamantia

Vera Louise Lamantia 90, died at 1:25 p.m. August 5, 2007, at the Ridge at Shawnee. She was born May 2, 1917, in Allen County, Ohio to Walter and Addie Nungester Snider, who preceded her in death. On August 12, 1939, she married Vincent Louis Lamantia, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mrs. Lamantia was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and its Women?s Aglow and the RICA-Rite of Christian Initiation Association. She had been a volunteer with St. Rita?s Medical Center Auxiliary and at Our Daily Bread soup kitchen. Her Christian faith was a very important part of her life, but most of all, she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren. Survivors also include two sons, Donald Lamantia, of Lima, Ohio, and David (Kathy) Lamantia, of Canton, Ohio; two daughters, Christine (Blair) Bower, of Millersburg, Ohio, and Kay (David) Dodd, of Birmingham, Alabama; a sister, Kathrine (Bob) Roose, of Lima, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Talcott; five brothers, Amos Snider, Kennard Snider, Gerald Snider, Henry Snider and Walter Snider Jr.; and three sisters, Mary Fetter, Elsie McCarty and Lucille Shingledecker. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Father Robert Lamantia will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Life Teens.
