VERA "JOAN" SMITH, 75, died at 11:35 a.m. April 9, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center. She was born October 5, 1929, in Columbus Grove, Ohio to Clarence and Annabelle Clauson Kohli. On May 28, 1950, she married LaVerne Smith, who survives in Lima, Ohio. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jackson Center, Ohio and its Circle Two Women's Club. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Escapee RV & Camping Club. She loved Bongo and camping. Survivors also include three daughters, Joyce Ann (Dave E.) Welker of Lima, Ohio, Patricia Kay (Jimmy) Fouche of DeQuincy, Louisiana, and Susan Diane (Rick) Brandehoff of Oakley, California; three sons, David Franklin (Joyce Eileen) Smith of Stevensville, Michigan, Dennis Dale (Marilyn) Smith of Evergreen, Colorado, and Howard Eugene (Helen) Smith of Lima; four sisters, Betty (Evan) Steiner of Stuart, Florida, Doris (Jim) Coffey of Chardin, Nita Extine of Columbus Grove, Ohio and Sandy Kohli of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister-in-law, Glenna Kohli of Lima, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Mercedes Everman; and three brothers, Howard Kohli, Clarence Kohli Jr., and Jim Kohli. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Jan Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 616 S.
