Vernon R. Stelzer Sr.
89, died at 4:15 AM on Sunday, June 07, 2015, at Mennonite Memorial Home Health Services, in Bluffton, Ohio.
Vernon was born on May 25, 1926, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Wilbur Stelzer and Carrie (Gossman) Stelzer.
He married Patricia L. Smith on June 16, 1946, she survives in Lima. He served in the Ohio National Guard during the Korean Conflict. He worked at various jobs including Kolter Buckeye Dairy, Westinghouse, Lima Locomotive, Pillsbury, Sohio Refinery, also worked the Laundromat Business for 10 years. He owned the Westview Cleaning Plaza. He was a member of Lima Baptist Temple. He did Mission work with Mennonite Central Committee for 4 years. He worked at Afford-a-call after mission work and then retired from Afford-a-call.
He is survived by a son, Vernon R."Rick" (Marilyn) Stelzer, Jr., of Southport NC. and a daughter, Susan (Robert) Gatchel, of Elida, OH; two sisters, Joan (Wilbert) Wolf, of Lima, OH and Lorna (Thomas) Emerson, of Jackson Center, OH; two brothers, Howard Stelzer, of Lima, OH and Merle Stelzer, of Celina, OH; four grandchildren, Kim (Kenneth) Matteson, Robert (Fiancée Heather) Gatchel, Jr., Stacey(Joshua) Lehman and Amanda (Nathaniel) Koverman; ten great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Marcene Dicus and two sister-in-laws, Erma Stelzer and Beverly Stelzer.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to Noon on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Lima Baptist Temple.
A Memorial Service will be held at Noon on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Lima Baptist Temple in Lima, Ohio. Pastor Gary Hohman will officiate.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
