Vincent Louis Lamantia, 89, died at 6:45 p.m. September 9, 2008, at Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg, Ohio. He was born August 19, 1919, in Lima, Ohio to Salvadore and Vingenza ?Mamie? (Lamantia) Lamantia, who preceded him in death. On August 12, 1939, he married Vera Louise Snider, who preceded him in death. Mr. Lamantia retired as an electrical tester from Westinghouse Electric Corp. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He was a member of the Serra Club. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and CIAO and had been an instructor for RCIA. He was a longtime member of Hawthorne Hills Country Club. He was involved in several Christian fellowship groups and worked extensively with Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, St. Vincent De-Paul and Harvest Thrift Store and at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was a volunteer at St. Charles Elementary School. He was a member of an area square dance club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from June 1944 to February 1946. He was an avid golfer and was a cabinetmaker. Survivors include two son, Donald LaMantia, of Lima, Ohio, and David (Kath) Lamantia, of Canton, Ohio; two daughters, Christine (Blair) Bower, of Millersburg, Ohio, and Kay (David) Dodd, of Birmingham, Alabama; a brother, Richard Lamantia, of Dayton, Ohio; five sisters, Marie Duval, of Lima, Ohio, Josephine Cianciolo, of Sidney, Ohio, Helen Gulker, of Troy, Ohio, Rosanne (Dave) Sprague, of Dayton, Ohio, and Virginia Raymond, of Lima, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Melinda Talcott, Dr. Matthew Talcott, Leanne Jaffe, Joseph Lamantia, Travis Bower, Trent Bower, Jonathan Dodd, Emily LaMantia, Liz LaMantia, and Erin LaMantia; three great-grandchildren, Adam McPherson, Lauren Talcott and Matthew McPherson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Talcott; and a brother, Father A. Robert Lamantia. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Rev. Stephen Blum will officiate. Burial will be at a later in Gethsemani Cemetery.
