VIRGIE RICE MARKHAM, 90, died April 23, 2006, at her residence. She was born November 21, 1915, in West Jefferson, Ohio to Edward and Bertha Fay Clouser, who preceded her in death. She married Henry Rice, who preceded her in death. She then married Howard Markham, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Markham was a certified legal assistant, having worked as a legal secretary for attorneys Lucinda N. Madden and Roland A. Sedgwick, for 35 years. She was a member of the Ohio Association of Legal Secretaries, where she served two years as president and two years as secretary. She was a charter member of the Columbus Association of Legal Secretaries. She was a member and past president of the Grove City Business and Professional Women's Association and past president of American Legion Post 201 Auxiliary, West Jefferson. She received her certification as a probate paralegal from Capital Law School, Columbus, Ohio, where she was a member of its first paralegal class. She was a former resident of Grove City, Ohio. Survivors include two daughters, Natalie Jean (James) Kidwell of Lima, Ohio and Marilyn Darlene (Ray) Sheenn of Plain City, Ohio; three grandchildren, James Lee Schellhaas II of Hilliard, Ohio and Katherine Kidwell and James Christopher Kidwell, both of Lima, Ohio; and a great-grandson, James Lee Schellhaas III of Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Amann. Private graveside services will be held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, West Jefferson, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society.
