Virgil ?Abe? Salsburey 84, died at 12:10 a.m. November 12, 2007, at St. Rita?s Medical Center. He was born May 14, 1923, in Putnam County, Ohio to Glen and Jessie Salsburey, who preceded him in death. On July 1, 1944, he married Marian Jean Crites, who survives in Lima. Mr. Salsburey retired in 1980, from Westinghouse Electrical , after 35 years, where he was a union steward for the AFLCIO. He was one of the first families that was brought up and raised in the Marsh Foundation in Van Wert. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, American Legion Post 96 ad the Odd Fellows of America. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors also include four daughters, Peggy Salsburey Frysinger, of Lima, Ohio, Diana Coats, of Lafayette, Ohio, and Rebecca Salsburey Harrod, Ohio and Betty Mikesell, of Lima, Ohio; a son, Robert (Christina) Salsburey, of Lima, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandchild; and a sister, Lea Dorothy Salsburey, of Ashland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Benster and Alberta Ferguson; two brothers, Alva Salsburey and George Salsburey; two sons-in-law, Doyle Mikesell and Alan Coates; and a great-grandson, Matthew Mikesell II. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Pastor Eric Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Allentown Cemetery, Allentown, Ohio. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
