Virginia L. Rupe Cox Lambert Davenport, 89, died at 2:58 p.m. January 11, 2009, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Services Community. She was born October 3, 1919, in Eno, Ohio to Chester and Garnet Roush Rupe, who preceded her in death. She married Franklin Cox and then Lawrence Lambert. In 1968, she married Homer ?Hank? Davenport, who died in 1984. Mrs. Davenport retired in 1978 from the switchboard at J.C. Penney Co. Inc. She had also worked at Kresges and the downtown Kewpee. She was a volunteer at St. Rita?s Medical Center from 1984 to 2006. In 22 years she volunteered 35,175 hours. In May 1991, she received the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award. She loved spending time with family. She was an avid reader and she loved The Ohio State University football and the Cincinnati Reds. Survivors include a son, Ronnie M. (Carolyn) Cox, of Lima, Ohio; two daughters, Juanita (Dan) Finn, of Lima, Ohio, and Janette (Sam) Hixson, of Spencerville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Sheri, Lori, Jeffery, Debbie, Rhonda, Lisa, Ed and Shelly; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Mae Suitor; and a grandson, Bryan E. Hixson. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Wanda Werking will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.
