Virginia O. Klingler,
87, died at 9:50 p.m. March 5, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Rawson to Albert and Eva Walter Schwinn, who preceded her in death. She was married on Sept. 14, 1945, to John M. Klingler, who survives in Lima. They were married for 65 years.
Mrs. Klingler held a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Bowling Green State University and a master's degree from the University of Dayton. She also studied at Findlay College, now the University of Findlay, and Ohio Northern University. While in college, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. For 40 years she taught commercial subjects at Lafayette-Jackson, Harrod and Allen East high schools. On occasion, she taught classes at the college level. In some instances, she taught three generations of students from the same family. She liked all her students, and they liked her. Often, during her retirement years, she received thanks for what she had given them. She was a member of the United Brethren Church, and attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Lima. For more than 30 years, she was treasurer of the service club La Sertoma. Also for many years she was treasurer of Delta Gamma sorority. She was a life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors also include a daughter, Linda Kammerer, of Minneapolis; a grandson, Joshua (Heather) Kammerer, of Sundance, Wyo.; three great-grandsons, Micah, Seth, and Isaiah; and a sister, Treva Rice, of Redding, Calif.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. The Rev. Phyllis Fetzer will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
