Virginia Lee Sturgill

Virginia Lee Sturgill, better known at “Jennie”, was born Dec. 10, 1929, in Bulan (Perry County), Kentucky, and died September 24, 2024, in Lima, OH. She was the oldest of four children, born to Augustus Brantley and Minta (Calhoun ) Blount, who preceded her in death.

She married James Edgar Sturgill on May 28, 1948, in Hindman, KY and they moved to Lima, Ohio in 1952. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1995 in Lima. She was a homemaker. 

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Gale (Carl) Schimpf and Rose Lee (Robert) Hartman, both of Lima, OH; two sons, Claude Dale Sturgill, Lima, OH and Kenneth Dean (Cathy) Sturgill of Mesa, Arizona. Virginia is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Melissa Windau, Chris Sturgill, Kim Sturgill, Michelle Schimpf, Becky Brinkman, Karla Maxwell, Tanim Swallow, Clint Hartman, Trischa Dumbrow; and step-grandchildren: Rob Bradshaw, Jamie Tate and Sarah Lewis; and 24 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, James (Bev) Blount, Rockford, Ohio; a sister, Jane Ayers, Celina, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by a sister, Ella V. McDonald and a half-sister, Martha Helen Yenser, both of Celina, OH. 

She found joy in her family, computer, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and reading.

A visitation will be held at Chamberlain Huckeriede Funeral Home, 920 N. Cable Rd., Lima, OH from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, OH
