Walter George,
87, of Lima, Ohio died on Monday, December 10, 2012, at his residence in Lima, Ohio.
Born May 25, 1925 in Lima, Ohio, he was the son of the late Nicholas George and the late Patricia (Schouff)
Mr. George retired from Nickel Plate R.R. and also owned Carl & Walt's Marathon, and Midas Muffler Shops on Central and on the corner of Cable and Allentown for 35 years. He married Gloria J. Rhoades on May 29, 1943 in Kentucky. She preceded him in death. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 during WWII. He loved his family. He was a life member of the VFW 1275 and was a member of the American Legion Post 96 of Lima. He enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are: two sons, Nicholas (Cheryl) George of Lima, OH and Michael (Jill) George of Lima, OH; two daughters, Linda Moore of Lima, OH and Susan (Richard) Garee of Lima, OH; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Christina Rhoades of Lima, OH, and Betty Meeks of Lima, OH; two nephews, Walter Malcolm of Toledo, OH, and Tony Malcolm of Lima, OH; a niece, Patty Boyd of Mansfield, OH.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George B. George; a sister, Vera Durst; and a son-in-law, Michael Moore
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home.
A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. Rev. Wanda Werking will officiate.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima, OH.
